On the Horizon: Bandwidth and Technology Trends for Middle Mile Networks

Presented at ISE EXPO in Dallas, Texas, on August 22, 2024

The “middle mile,” a network segment that connects the local ISPs to the core backbone of the internet, is a critical infrastructure to support high-speed internet deployment in rural locations. Fiber optic technologies have revolutionized digital services and applications, rendering possibilities that were unfeasible just decades ago, is a critical enabler of the middle mile network.

Learn the importance of the middle mile network as an enabler to access education and the digital economy in rural. We will show the methodology and estimation of broadband bandwidth growth in the last mile and its impact on the middle mile. The participants will learn current and emerging technologies that are driving the bandwidth growth and current and novel optical technologies needed to support the bandwidth growth in the middle mile and rural areas.
